In your heart, how old do you
feel? Do you think of yourself as young and vivacious (even though
you might be well past the days of your youth?)
Meet Elsa. In the film ELSA &
FRED, Elsa (age 82) behaves as though she is still in the prime of
her life. In spite of what the mirror might tell her, in Elsa’s
mind she is still a hot babe with dreams left to fulfill. One day,
a sad widower moves into the apartment next door to Elsa, to face
what he believes will be the remainder of his lonely life. Alfredo
(Fred) is an introvert who frets obsessively about his health. He
has led a predictable and dispassionate life. Elsa, on the other
hand, has always lived for the moment, bordering on reckless. As
an Argentine immigrant who married a younger man, she took a male
stripper because her spouse lacked interesting vices. Now, in her
golden years, Elsa has crossed the line between a vivid
imagination and outright fibbing. Elsa aggressively pursues Fred,
and although they aren’t necessarily a match made in heaven,
what develops between the geriatric lovebirds is pure magic. This
delightful love story will forever change the way you think about
senior love.
ELSA & FRED is one of the
latest releases from the Spiritual
Cinema Circle. My husband and I have many friends and
colleagues involved in this circle, and we finally got around to
checking it out for ourselves. We recently viewed our first disk,
and we can't believe we waited this long to try it out. The films
were really good! Then I spent some time on the website viewing
trailers from the past year's monthly movies, and I knew that I
had to share this with everybody I could.
They have a FREE
trial and you get ELSA & FRED plus 3 short films.
Here's the description of one of
the short films in this month's collection:
Meet The Funkmeyers: A couple like
no other. She's 55; he's 28. She's Chinese; he's a Jew. She's wild
and emotional; he was the state math winner. She bends spoons; he
break-dances. She stopped wearing dentures; he gave away his
possessions. Both are nearly blind, but they don't wear glasses.
They prefer bikes and buses to cars and taxis.
